Genelia appreciated in bollywood

Genelia is a happy girl these days. Not only for her film’s success but also for all the appreciation she has been getting from film-lovers and critics for her portrayal of Aditee aka Mau! ‘Genelia overshadowed Imran in the film’ was a common opinion and the young actress couldn’t be happier!

“I am feeling fantastic! After Jaane Tu, people have rechristened me as Meeao or Aditi and that feels great. People recognize me as Aditi now! I am glad to know that the film has clicked with almost all kinds of audiences”, says Genelia who is busy basking in the glory of her film of late.

You have tasted success today in Hindi films but your initial films didn’t click! “Working in films was never my ultimate career option. I never expected much, also I took failures in my stride back then”, comes a prompt reply.

Talking about success, do friends make for great lovers in real life as shown in her now successful film Jaane Tu? “If you have a close friend there is bound to be that attraction” says Genelia. That definitely prompts us to ask if she has felt the same for ‘good friend’ Ritesh? “Ritesh is a good friend and all the talks about our marriage are nothing but baseless rumours”, says the young actress yet again denying her alleged linkup with Ritesh.

So what’s next for Genelia? “I have ‘Life Partner’ which is an Abbas Mustan production, an untitled film with Harman Baweja which has been directed by Anees Bazmee.

Salman-Govinda To Pair up again

Support for the currently beleaguered Salman Khan has come from unexpected quarters.

The maverick MP-actor Govinda, who did Partner last year with Salman, is determined to fight for the macho actor until his last breath. “Salmanbhai is constantly under attack. But, like me, he doesn’t retaliate to backbiting. So our detractors believe they can go on hitting us. Yet Salmanbhai is the hero of the masses,” says Govinda.

And eager to keep a good thing going, Govinda declares that he will tie a black thread (“kissiki nazar na lage”) around their friendship. The two are slated to return together on screen for a sequel to Partner in March 2009 to be directed David Dhawan. Sohail Khan will produce the sequel of the warring buddies that was borrowed from the Will Smith comedy Snitch. “This time, the film will be based on another idea,” says Govinda.

Katrina to pair up with ranbir in Rajniti

'World’s sexiest woman', Katrina Kaif has been signed to play the role opposite Ranbir Kapoor in Prakash Jha ’s forthcoming political thriller Rajniti .

The movie, on the lines of the great epic Mahabharat, also stars Ajay Devgan , Manoj Bajpai , Vivek Oberoi and Nana Patekar .

Talking about Katrina, Jha said, “I needed an actress who'd look convincing as an intelligent, modern, cultured girl of today. Katrina fit the bill perfectly. She also looks perfectly matched with Ranbir.”

It is pertinent to mention here that Katrina was supposed to star as the fourth heroine opposite Ranbir in the forthcoming Bachna Ae Haseeno , but her role was chopped out because the film was getting too long.

Katrina would not mind that one bit because in 'Rajniti', she’ll have Ranbir all for herself.

'Rajniti' that blends contemporary Indian politics with chapters from Mahabharat, will have Ajay playing a modern day Karna and Nana Patekar has been cast as Lord Krishna. Manoj Bajpai will play a modern day Duryodhan, while Ranbir is in the pivotal role of Arjun.

Brett Lee To help harman

Brett Lee continues his love for Indian music and films with his role in the forthcoming film 'Victory'.

This new creative attempt for the star fast bowler who is quite good in playing guitar and piano was special because he played himself.

In the forthcoming film 'Victory' which is the story of a small town player making it big in international cricket, Brett Lee will be seen as helping the character played by the leading man Harman Baweja to realize his dreams.

Harman after his disastrous debut film has high hopes pinned on this film.

Some other foreign players also got the experience of acting in a movie for the first time.

Australian players Michael Hussey, Stuart Clark and Brad Hogg will be seen exhibiting their cricketing skills on screen in 'Victory'.

For Lee this is the second time that he faced the camera.

He has earlier not only appeared in a video but also given his voice for a song in the music album of Asha Bhonsle called 'Asha and friends'.

Ishmeet Singh Passes Away in Maldives

'Voice of India' singing contest winner Ishmeet Singh Tuesday died under mysterious circumstances by "drowning" in a swimming pool in Male, the capital of the Maldives.

The 19-year-old singer hailing from a middle-class of this industrial city of Punjab had gone to Maldives for a promotional event with the music company with which he had a contract.

Relatives at his residence here said the family was informed telephonically by the music company officials that Ishmeet died while swimming in a hotel pool in the Maldives.

"We are too shocked to react. We have no other information so far," a shocked relative told IANS here while confirming the tragic news.

Relatives, friends and admirers of the singer made a beeline to his house even as his shocked parents tried to come to terms with the untimely tragedy. A pall of gloom descended on the locality.

The singer left here Tuesday morning for Maldives from Mumbai.

Ishmeet had Nov 26 last year won the 'Voice of India' singing contest, pipping his closest rival Harshit from Uttar Pradesh in a keen contest. He was given the winner's trophy by melody queen Lata Mangeshkar.

Supporters of the singer voted heavily for him from Punjab during the finals of the contest. Even though Harshit led the votes tally in most regions of the country, the final count went in Ishmeet's favour due to heavy voting from Punjab.

"He was like a brother to me. I cannot even comment on what has happened. I cannot believe that he is no longer with us," fellow contestant Harshit told a TV news channel.

Aamir Is the King Khan

Aamir Khan’s recent successes as director and producer have catapulted him to the number one spot in the industry, reports ANIRUDDHA GUHA

Amir Khan, clearly, has emerged as the biggest brand in the film industry today. Although his popularity has been consistent over the last two decades, his recent work behind the camera and the quality of films produced under his banner — Lagaan, Taare Zameen Par and Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na — have made him the most powerful brand in the industry today.

“He makes his directorial debut with a film about a dyslexic kid and delivers a blockbuster. Then a film with new faces and director gets off to a phenomenal start, solely because Aamir’s name as producer is attached to it,” says trade analyst Taran Adarsh, who believes that Aamir is number one in the industry today.

Although Aamir tops the power chart in the overall scheme of things, Shah Rukh Khan continues to rule the roost when it comes to the actors.

“Shah Rukh is undoubtedly the biggest star. His pull overseas and even among Indian audiences is astounding,” says trade expert Komal Nahta. Aamir and Shah Rukh have, in fact, been having a close contest for the number one spot in the actor’s space for years now. But Aamir’s unwillingness to play to the gallery (he refuses to attend award functions and has been media shy, until recently) and Shah Rukh’s popularity in the overseas market have ensured SRK assuming the top spot, till now.

Another strong contender in the ‘popularity contest’ is Akshay Kumar. “Akshay has proven that he has sustaining power. His string of hits has established him as a star who is proving to be tough competition for the two Khans,” says film critic Indu Mirani. In fact, Akshay has raced ahead of Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan and even Amitabh Bachchan, the veteran coming in only at the sixth spot on the power list.

Among the female actors, Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan finally gives way to Kareena Kapoor. India’s only true international star has had the going tough in both the Indian and foreign markets, and even her teaming up with other Bachchan family members failed to make Sarkar Raj work. However, she is nowhere out of the running yet.

On the other hand, the success and awards the Kapoor girl won for Jab We Met has made her hot property among the big banners, and number one on the female actors’ list.

You would think that Yash Raj Films would be the worst hit after the past two years’ dismal performance. The production house has taken a severe beating with a string of flops like Neal ‘n’ Nikki, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, Tashan and Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic lately. However, the brand continues to be the number one production house in the country, and with scion Aditya Chopra taking the directorial baton with the Shah Rukh starrer Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, which releases later this year, things may look up.

But with Aamir Khan Productions and UTV Motion Pictures close on their heels, Yash Raj need to pull up their socks big time.

Karan Johar, or KJo as he is known, assumes the number one position in the directors’ list. His last release Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna garnered big numbers overseas. Now, with Johar reportedly teaming up with Shah Rukh and Kajol once again for My Name Is Khan, more fireworks can be expected.

Abbas Tyrewala finds himself topping the writers’ list. The best music director list is topped by, no surprises there, AR Rahman. The maestro continues to enthrall listeners with scores as varied as the ones in Jodhaa Akbar and Jaane Tu... Sonu Nigam tops the singers list.

For the moment though, we would like to raise a toast to the Numero Uno — who is at number two in the actors and producers list and at number four as director, the all-rounder — Aamir Khan.

Kuselan to be released with karnataka's support

Tamil superstar Rajnikanth has written to the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) to ensure that his forthcoming film "Kuselan' is released in the state without any problems since many groups were against it, alleging that he had made "anti-Kannadiga" statements.

Though KFCC president and actress Jayamala has already given the nod for the movie's simultaneous release in Karnataka Aug 1, Rajnikanth apparently doesn't want to take any chances.

Some Kannada organisations had been demanding that "Kuselan" be released in the state only after a seven-week moratorium as Rajnikanth had hurt the sentiments of Kannadigas by supporting Tamil Nadu on a row over a drinking water project in Hogenekkal, on the border between the two states.

The superstar had joined the Tamil film industry in a daylong protest fast in April against Karnataka's objections to the Rs.13.3 billion Hogenekkal project that is expected to benefit about three million people in two Tamil Nadu districts.

Karnataka is opposed to the project, saying its share of the Cauvery river waters will be affected.

During the protest, Rajnikanth had apparently blamed Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa for the problem, angering many Kannada activists.

The actor, in his letter to Jayamala Monday, which he has written in Kannada, stressed that he had never intended to hurt the feelings of Kannadigas by speaking at the rally.

He wrote: "I came to know that there was some bitterness among a section of Kannada people about my speech on the Hogenakkal issue. I want to say that I'm not a person to hurt feelings of other people and I'm not a person to create any difficulties for others... I have not believed in hurting others."

Rajnikanth added that he did not want his fans in Karnataka to miss out on his film.

"I don't want people to have any difficulty in seeing my film in Karnataka. I would appeal to you to co-operate to facilitate the release of the film in the state," he said in the letter.

Jayamala released the actor's letter at a press conference here.

She said: "The executive committee of the KFCC has already agreed to allow the release of the film with lesser number of prints and lesser number of theatres."

The KFCC president had earlier also urged people to not link the Hogenakkal issue to the release of "Kuselan", specially since producer K. Balachander was a respected film personality who had contributed to Kannada cinema as well.

NTR wants to get political touch in films

It is well aware that Young Tiger NT Rama Rao had signed the dotted line for a film to be produced by Kodali Nani under the direction of VV Vinayak and the film was formally launched with puja activities recently. However, the director unable to convince the hero with a suitable subject and NTR too listened to different stories but none of them suited the taste of the hero.

It is learnt that NTR is now insisting on a storyline with political touch. In this backdrop, some fresh assistant directors and writers were introduced to the hero for story sittings. Like his earlier film ‘Samba’, NTR wants to do a message-oriented film and at the same time, the film should have some satires on the present government. It is learnt that NT Rama Rao is planning to launch campaign for the Telugu Desam through his next film. The producer is making efforts to launch the regular shooting of the film at any cost in August.

Katrina cuts off with salman

The last straw was probably his behavior at her birthday party recently when Salman Khan initiated a fight between him and guest Shah Rukh Khan that nearly came to blows.

The sources said that after the incident Salman and Katrina are not on talking terms.
“Katrina is blaming Salman for the entire episode,” said a common friend. Katrina was of the opinion that Salman should have restrained himself as he was playing the host. “But certain things are not in anyone’s control and it is destined to happen,” Katrina said in an interview.

A close friend of Salman said: “He is good at heart. He took initiative for the party to please Katrina. But everything went wrong.” Industry insiders have been talking about the cooling off of this relationship for some months now. The on-off affair has already toned down to a mere friendship, according to their close friends.

Salman has ruined his future with Katrina by his drinking habits and also his hang-up for ex-girlfriend Aishwarya Rai. Katrina is concentrating on her professional life, which is going great guns. She has also stopped taking Salman’s advice in her career and that has soured relationship between the two.The SRK- Salman spat at the birthday party must have hit the nail in the coffin.

Imran Khan takes the lead in Delhi belly

For quite sometimes, media has been agog with rumours regarding Aamir's next production venture, DELHI BELLY. A lot has been talked and written about the project, right from Aamir Khan playing a negative character to his nephew, Imran Khan (JT...YJN fame) being signed as one of the lead stars. So, what's the true picture?

Well, as we all know, the film is being directed by Abhinav Deo, son of veteran actors, Ramesh and Seema Deo. It will be an English film and will have a mix of Bollywood and Hollywood crew. The dark comedy has been written by Akshat and like the previous two films produced by Aamir Khan (TAARE ZAMEEN PAR and JAANE TU...YA JAANE NA), the script of this film too had been rejected by makers (a good omen indeed!) who were unable to grasp the subtle humour and relate to the script. Aamir and his wife Kiran simply loved the story, which had them in splits throughout the story session.

The film is all set to roll very soon but Aamir Khan is yet to decide the lead star cast. Though it is being said that there is a role which is perfect for Aamir in the film, he has not given his consent as such. As of now, Aamir has just decided to produce DELHI BELLY, which he calls a very different film!

Different indeed! We are already looking forward to another superb offering from the perfectionist Khan.

Sajid Khan's Decides the casts for House Full

What's the final star cast of Sajid Khan's House Full, his next venture after the immensely successful HEYY BABYY?

In between there was talk that Amitabh Bachchan was expected to head the cast of this multi-starrer, which stars Akshay Kumar in the lead. Besides, Kareena Kapoor and Deepika Padukone were being considered.

"I had never confirmed Amit-ji," Sajid clarifies. So what's the final cast then? "The confirmed cast is Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Deepika Padukone, Jiah Khan and Boman Irani," he says.

Kareena? "No, she isn't part of my film, she's doing KAMBAKTH ISHQ. I should finalize one more heroine in a week's time," he adds.

While HEYY BABYY was shot in Australia, House Full will be filmed in New York and New Jersey, besides Rio and Bahamas from January/February 2009 onwards.

BIG B to play Abhishek's grandfather in Dilli 6

The Big B is on to some really unusual casting and roles these days. And who better equipped to provide the still-famished actor with unusual opportunities than Rakeysh Mehra. After all, Rakeysh is the guy who cast the Big B in a satanic drama Aks.

And the casting can't get any more unusual than Dilli 6. Rakeysh's under-production semi-autobiographical film which has Abhishek Bachchan playing the lead.

In a specially- written cameo to be shot in May the Big B will make a very special appearance in Dilli 6.

"I play Abhishek's grandfather in Dilli 6, " says the Big B. Interestingly

The film already has the father-son Bachchan's favourite actress Waheeda Rehman in the lead, and one of the Big B's incentives for stepping into the picture so late is to spare screen space with his favourite actress.

With Dilli 6 almost complete Rakeysh Mehra already has plans of casting the Big B in his next in a film unusually-titled Paanch Kaurav.

"It's too early to talk about Paanch Kaurav. But it's in the caper-adventure genre. And it would be my third film with the Big B. I couldn't get luckier. I've also done three films with Abhishek, " chuckles Rakeysh Mehra.

You scratch your head at that one. And Mehra explains, "I was supposed to do Abhishek's launch film Samjhauta Express and then we were to do Bhairavi (with all the three Bachchans—AB Sr, Jaya and Abhishek).

We had gone so deep into the discussions that we both feel we've already worked in those two films together. So our comfort level in Dilli 6 is as high as it would be for any director-actor team that has done three films together."

Aamir and Salaman Wants "Andaz Apna Apna" Magic again

Aamir Khan not just wants to act in the film but he also wants to produce it.

Way back in mid 90s, Aamir and Salman Khan had teamed up for Rajkumar Santoshi ’s rip-roaring comedy ‘Andaz Apna Apna’ that had left its audiences with aching bellies. Now, about 14 years after that, Aamir is in talks with Santoshi to make another film on the same lines.

The movie would naturally star Aamir and Salman in the lead roles. Aamir himself has offered to produce the flick.

The original film was about two guys who want to get wealthy by marrying a rich girl. But the rich girl swaps her place with another girl (a poor one) to win the love of a man for her own sake and not because of her money. What follows is a hilarious confusion of identities.

Santoshi would script the second version of the film but he says it won’t necessarily be a sequel. It would, of course, be difficult to pick up the thread of the story from where it ended in the 1994 movie. And new heroines would obviously be needed for the two heroes.

According to sources, Aamir has been very eager to produce the ‘Andaz Apna Apna’ sequel ever since his friendship with Salman became thicker again.

Aamir is reportedly also thinking of producing another film on farmers’ suicides. It would be a serious, issue-based film starring a host of actors from the theatre world.

So far, all the movies Aamir has produced have been hits at the box-office, his nephew’s Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na being the latest.

Shahid Connects with Sania

It seems Shahid Kapoor’s kismet isn’t connecting with any ladies. Where Kareena dumped Shahid for Saif now Shahid has broke up with Vidya Balan for his new found love in tennis star Sania Mirza. It has been said that Sania gave the support of her shoulder when Shahid was going through tough times after his break up with bebo. And that emotional bonding has now developed into a full-fledged relationship between the two stars. According to our source, both Shahid and Vidya shared a wonderful chemistry while shooting for Kismat Konnection. But now the two just meet each other formally and the warmness in their relationship has suddenly evaporated.

Well, we hope that this chocolaty boy of Bollywood connects well with the bubbly tennis star or else we would yet again be forced to jot down another sad story happening in the tinsel town.

Kaun Jeetega Bollywood Ka Ticket is turning out to be hot

Kaun Jeetega Bollywood Ka Ticket on 9X is surely turning into a boxing ring as everyone out there is ready to punch the other…After the boys played out their round last week, it was the girls who jumped into the ring this time! Twinkle Bajpai of the Central Zone follows the steps of her partner Puneet Israni this week as she fights back with Panchi Bora from the Eastern zone about the comment made by the latter on her being a nautanki on the sets.

Twinkle’s open remark ‘I do not appreciate anyone’s criticism about me, other than my close ones’ made Panchi upset and the usually smiling actress was seen crying on the sets.

A well-placed source of ours states, “All said and done, this week was not as bad as last week. Basically it was just a misunderstanding which got cleared. Twinkle pointed fingers at Panchi Bora for what she had told her last week and the actress broke into tears. But everything got resolved quickly when the mentors butted in and handled the situation”.

To know what exactly happened, we contacted Twinkle who reacted saying, “I will not tell you anything till you tell me what Panchi told you about the incident!!”.But this was not the end of misery for Panchi as she along with her partner got eliminated this week! We tried to get in touch with Panchi, but she was unavailable for comments.

Chali 100° made on innocence, adolescence and the magic of youth

Stories made on innocence, adolescence and the magic of youth always cast enchanting spells permeating our hearts with joy. This is the stuff that lives are made with. Exploits during our formative years stand in good stead molding our futures with lasting impressions.

Anita Udeep is currently filming an exciting Telugu film along these lines titled 'Chali 100°'. Having already made two films, 'Knock, knock….I am looking to marry' and the animation flick 'Gulliver's Travels' in English, it is now a Telugu movie 'CHALI 100 degree'.

'Fun-times' for just about anybody is life after school and college hours. 'What's interesting is that this is a high school film with hardly any classroom scene' says the young filmmaker.

The exploits of Surya, B.LO, Tanya, Rohit, Akash and Ralte on hostel campus would most certainly arouse the curiosity especially in the background of the dense forest atmosphere that prevails on their campus. The movie would be mostly on the lives of these young adults in their 12th grade. 'The film will have exciting action and humor laced with loads of twists and turns' says Anita.

Music for Chali 100° is being designed in such a precise manner that it plays different characters in the film so much so that the music part would synchronize with the emotions of the lead characters identifying with their innate natures.

The film is also planned to have a simultaneous release in Tamil titled 'Kulir 100°'.

srk trumbels as kuselan releases

Shah Rukh Khan got shocked when he heard that Superstar Rajnikant's Tamil film 'Kuselan' has been wrapped up and will be releasing in August.

Rajnikant's previous film 'Sivaji' although was a Tamil film managed to get unexpected attention of people from all over India.

So the producers of 'Kuselan' had planned to release the Hindi dubbed version at the same time when the movie hits the cinema halls in south.

'Kuselan' is the remake of the Malyalam hit film 'Katha Parayumbol' so is King Khan's forthcoming film 'Billoo Barber'.

Sharukh wanted to finish off the work of his film fast and get it released as a Diwali movie.

And he was also confident of getting his film first to the theaters.

Upon hearing that the Hindi version of 'Kuselan' will be reaching the theaters much before his film will get exposed, SRK panicked as if this happens the box office prospect of 'Billoo Barber' will get severely damaged due to having the same theme and story.

Adding more intensity to his tension was that in both the films, the lead actors appear in 20 different looks in a single song.

SRK had no other option than to make a call to the South Superstar and request him to change the north Indian release date of 'Kuselan'.

Rajnikant considered Sharukh's request and assured him that his film will get to the halls only after Diwali.

Utv Makes to the us top 20

-Led by back to back success of Taare Zameen Par, Jodhaa Akbar, Race, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na

UTV Motion Pictures is now amongst the top 20 film distributors in North America based on the US box office performance in the first 6 months of 2008. UTV is the first Indian film studio ever to have crossed the US $5 million revenue mark in the first half of the year.
UTV releases grossed US $ 5.48 million in the first 28 weeks of the year, making the company the leading Indian motion picture distributor in the United States and the only foreign language movie distributor in the Top 20.

The Company achieved this feat with only three releases this year – Jodhaa Akbar ($ US 3.44 million), Race ($ US 1.37 million) and Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na ($ US 539,857 and counting). The box office total was also supported by Aamir Khan's Taare Zameen Par which was released in December 2007 but which continued its run well into 2008.

Entering the Top 20 is a major achievement for an Indian studio, given the fact that the market for Indian movies in the US is a small fraction of the mainstream American market. This is especially remarkable considering that UTV is one of the youngest Indian film distributors in North America, having established operations in the US only four years ago in 2004.

"The US market is one of our Top 3 priority markets worldwide and our sustained and relentless drive to produce and release quality content and then market and distribute it effectively, has helped us emerge as one of the top distributors in the most competitive market in the world," said Siddharth Roy Kapur, CEO, UTV Motion Pictures.

UTV has followed this stellar box office performance in the first half of 2008 with the release of Shahid Kapur-Vidya Balan starrer 'Kismat Konnection' on July 18, 2008. 'Kismat Konnection' has raked in over $ US 280,000 in just its opening weekend and is still going strong.

UTV's forthcoming films include Madhur Bhadarkar's latest 'Fashion', 'Delhi 6'- Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's follow up to Rang De Basanti and a co-production with Sohail Khan Productions 'Main Aur Mrs Khanna' starring Salman Khan. The company's first solo Hollywood production 'The Exterminators' starring Heather Graham is currently in production in the United States.

Shipa has turned down a lot of international projects

Bollywood hottie Shilpa Shetty says she has turned down a lot of international projects as she wants to focus more on Hindi films.

"I have left a lot of international projects to come back to Hindi films. Someone told me I was already out of sight and I did not want to be out of mind too. I want a good end product - a good Hindi film made in India," said Shilpa.

Shilpa also said she has not completely dropped the idea of working in the West. "If the prospects are lucrative enough in the West, I'll definitely go there. I have an international project, but it is still in the process of scripting," informed the actress.

Recollecting her win on Britain's reality show Celebrity Big Brother, she said, "I think Big Brother has been a boon in disguise for not only me but many Asians living abroad. I'm happy with whatever happened on the show. At least, it has changed the perception for Indians living abroad."

Shilpa refrained from making any comments on the rumours of her hosting the second season of Big Boss, the Indian version of British Big Brother. "When any such thing happens, the media will be informed."

Shilpa's next project includes The Man with Sunny Deol in which she will be seen playing the violin for the first time on-screen.

Shilpa, who took violin lessons for her role, quipped, "Violin is the single most difficult instrument to play. I am still nursing a bad neck and I do bhujangasan (yoga) everyday to get rid of the pain."

Apart from working in films, she will concentrate on her company S2 Global Productions. She has roped in Manish Jha of ‘Matrubhoomi’ fame to direct her first home production.

Shilpa will also be seen sharing the stage with the Bachchans at their ongoing Unforgettable tour in London on August 23-24 at the prestigious 02 Arena, earlier known as the Millennium Dome.
