King khan is riding high on success of Om shanti Om

SRK's recent lunch party, where he handed out bonus cheques to all his employees, was a big hit.
While the reason behind the party was no secret, what was not known was the total amount that SRK gave out to his employees who work at his production house and his Mumbai residence, Mannat.

Apparently, SRK gave out over Rs 1.5 crore to his staff that day. Says a source from his production house, “It was nice to see SRK's housemaid, who gets paid Rs 18,000 per year, dressed in her best sari for the do. She couldn't believe her eyes when SRK and Gauri handed over a cheque worth Rs 1 lakh to her. The same happened with his cook, drivers and others who work at his office.”

Bobby Chawla from SRK’s production house says, “Well, it was a get together where Shahrukh personally thanked all his employees.”

When questioned about the total amount distributed and the maid receiving Rs 1 lakh, he laughs and says, “The staff members got a bonus according to their nature of work. It was one of the nicest days of our lives not because of the money that we received but because of the thought behind that party.”

Deepika Pudukone at yuvraj's Birthday Party

Actress Deepika Padukone was the centre of attention at the birthday party of cricketer Yuvraj Singh on Wednesday.

On December 12, Yuvi threw a party for family and friends at Mumbai’s J W Marriott Hotel. While many senior members of the Indian cricket team were absent, the bash did see the presence of Yuvi’s close friend Zaheer Khan, who, like Yuvi, is also known to have several friends in the film industry.

But one person who set many heads turning was Deepika Padukone, who has previously admitted to being “friends” with some cricketers.

The Om Shanti Om actress looked dazzling at the party and mingled with guests without any air of a celebrity.

Eyewitnesses say the body language between Deepika and Yuvi suggested that there was indeed something brewing between them.

At the party, Yuvi particularly seemed to be in a mood to celebrate after proving his detractors wrong about him being suited to the five-day format of cricket.

One person who was conspicuous by his absence at the party was Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Om Shanti Om's struck with new controversy

It seems Shah Rukh Khan is controversy's favourite child. No sooner does the controversy surrounding Manoj Kumar subside and here comes the news of another one.

A disability rights activist and organisation working for the physically challenged have objected to a scene in SRK's latest film, Om Shanti Om and they are demanding a deletion of that particular scene. The scene in question shows SRK as an actor in the film playing a physically challenged man saying: "Haath pav nahi jisko, kaise karega woh disco?" This is followed by the hit number 'Dard-E-Disco'.

The organization wants the objectionable scene deleted before December 3rd, in time for International Day of Disabled Persons.

Shahrukh Khan apologies and made manoj kumar laugh..

Shah Rukh Khan and Farah Khan went to Manoj Kumar’s house to personally apologize for the spoof on the veteran in their film Om Shanti Om .

The move came just a day after Manoj Kumar said in an interview that he was considering legal option to sue the makers of OSO for spoofing him in a sequence in the film.

Yash Chopra , another Bollywood veteran, apparently played the mediator and sought an appointment with Manoj Kumar on Tuesday.

While Manoj Kumar was expecting only Yash Chopra, he was surprised to see Shah Rukh, his wife Gauri and Farah Khan accompanying Chopra on the visit on Tuesday evening.

It was clear that SRK had come to apologize to Manoj Kumar.

“Shah Rukh did try apologizing and I told him, if you even say sorry, I will be angry,” Manoj Kumar is quoted as saying in a media report.

The meeting lasted for more than two hours during which they all laughed and joked and caught up on old times. They also recited some poetic couplets and shared a few anecdotes.

Kumar told SRK that even though he was of his son’s age, he saw SRK as his brother.

On the parting note, SRK promised Kumar he would visit again.

Meanwhile, Farah Khan has said the ‘Manoj Kumar sequence’ in OSO will not be chopped as the issue has been sorted out.

Shahrukh and others at Om shanti Om Success Party

Shah Rukh Khan launched the book, Making of Om Shanti Om on Tuesday evening at a Mumbai star hotel. The entire OSO team barring Shreyas Talpade was present to celebrate the success of the film at this occasion.

Author of the book, Mushtaq Shiekh, who has also co-scripted Om Shanti Om told us, "I am confident that all those who have even remotely enjoyed OSO will definitely love the book. It is interspersed with some really glamorous photographs taken by the German photographer Jochen Mang who was there throughout the making of the book." Talking about the OSO success Mushtaq said, "The magic of pure unadulterated entertainment never fails is what OSO proved." Mushtaq has earlier written the SRK biography, Still Reading Khan and Making of Asoka.

Shah Rukh commented, "It might be suspected that I am the one who has conceptualized or written the book but it is not so. It is entirely, Mushtaq's baby. I believe he has done a fantastic job. He has been closely associated with the film as a script writer as well and his observation on the sets and the extra efforts he has taken for the book makes it worth a read."

On entering the venue, a much pregnant Farah Khan, was finding it difficult to walk up the staircase and also further the narrow staircase that lead to the stage erected for the launch. King Khan immediately came to her rescue and was escorted up by him.

Present at the occasion were SRK's close pal, Karan Johar, Manish Malhotra, Amisha Patel, Tabu, Riteish Deshmukh, Subhash Ghai, Chunkey Pandey and Suneil Shetty amongst others.

OSO team says?

Deepika excited about her debut film's box office success told us, "It feels great to be launched in a film like this which is nothing short of a dream debut. I am absolutely thrilled by its response which is nothing short of unbelievable for me."

Arjun Rampal who played his first full fledged negative role for the first time in OSO, said, "It was a risk playing a negative character for me. I did for a moment think before signing the film whether I would be able to carry it off especially in front of Shah Rukh. But then being an economics student I told myself the higher the risk, higher the profit and it has worked. I feel lucky. It was great working with the entire OSO team, especially SRK who was very co-operative." Does he henceforth plans to concentrate more on negative roles? "Well nothing like that. It all depends on the entire set up," Arjun replied.

Farah, who is expecting her triplets in February, said, "We were expecting a commercial success but this kind of response has been awe-inspiring. It's great that both, audiences as well as critics have appreciated the film. We had a lot of fun making this film and I am elated that audiences are having fun watching it too."

Difference between Om shanti Om and Karz

After watching the movie OSO and Karz, I can conclude that the movie is delivered from Karz .Many things similar ..

1) Reincarnation(Punarjanam,Rebirth of the soul in another body)

- In Karz the actor who died is a big real estate owner, and the reborn actor (Rishi kapoor) is a singer and face is not similar
- In OSO the actor who died is a junior artist, and the reborn actor is a super star and both have same face

2) meeting family after rebirth

- In Karz meets his family by seeing her sister Jyothi like a servant then meets his mother..who before he arrives was deaf and cant talk...and when he arrives she realizes that he has come and starts talking..
- In OSO after seeing the shadow she realizes that her son has come..

3)both have a solid plans of scaring the vielen .. make them feel like the person he /she killed is back

the movie was good but you can say OSO is inspired of karz ..

Good things in OSO :

1) making great difference and comedies in 70's

2) great sets in 70s ..e.g main agar kahoon

3) the Om shanti Om sets was awesome...and death scene of SRK.

4) in 2007...APAHIJ PYAR Story and acting,Mohabbat man

5) the filmfare award ceremony,31 stars Deewangi Deewangi

6) final ending ..

more will come in future

Shahrukh khan blasted BCCI for commenting on his visit to ODI is to promote OSO

Shah Rukh Khan found himself in the centre of a controversy after a senior Cricket Board official alluded that cricket matches were being used by stars to promote films but the superstar hit back saying he does not have to depend on other's platforms to push his films.

Khan said he was sad and disappointed over the remarks by Ratnakar Shetty that stars using the platform of cricket for promoting films is "slightly debatable" in the wake of his latest film Om Shanti Om coming up for discussion during a chat with TV commentator Rameez Raja at the recent Jaipur ODI cricket match between India and Pakistan.

Shetty however said film stars were welcome to watch cricket matches. BCCI Vice-President Rajiv Shukla said the Cricket Board has no objection to Khan or any other film personality coming to watch international cricket matches involving the national side.

A visibly hurt Khan said in Mumbai that "God has given me enough and I don't crave publicity."

" I went to watch the match for the love of sport, It is not in my nature to promote my films in others' platforms," he said.

" I don't think it can be so strange that just because I am popular, I can't take my children to watch a spectator sport without creating some kind of ill will or ill thought in the mind of people. I am very disappointed," Khan said.

Khan wryly said "Maybe I will just send the children next time and tell them not say they are my children."

Khan said he is not going to watch cricket matches in future if it has not gone well with the BCCI.

Khan said he had gone to watch the Jaipur watch for the love of the sport.

"My kids are fans of Sachin, Dhoni and Sourav," he added.

"God has given me enough. I don't crave publicity," Khan said.

Khan said his latest film came up during the Jaipur match proceedings when Rameez Raja said he and his family would like watch it.

So, it will be strange if film actors do not talk about films, he added.

Rajiv Shukla's statement comes in the wake of a media report which quoted a BCCI source saying the board officials are unhappy with King Khan as he is using cricket to promote his movies knowing that this is a "much bigger platform" than a private television station.

"The BCCI has no objection if any film star watches any of the matches involving the national team," Shukla said.

"We do not think the players get distracted by the film stars or any other spectator," he said.

Off-late Shahrukh has been appearing in matches involving the Indian team. He was there to cheer the team in the final of the Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa and then again went to see the Twenty20 match against Australia in Mumbai, where Deepika Padukone —his co-star in his recent movie 'Om Shanti Om' was also present. He was present in the last ODI against Pakistan in Jaipur as well and talked about his new movie in the commentary box.

He wanted to see the Kanpur ODI as well, but the local authorities vetoed the move saying it would be difficult for them to arrange for security and control the crowd.

Shahrukh khan apologizes to Manoj Kumar

Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan has tendered an unqualified apology to thespian Manoj Kumar for making a spoof on the latter in his latest release Om Shanti Om .

Even the film's director Farah Khan has offered to delete the offending scene from OSO.

Addressing a hurriedly called press conference in Mumbai, Khan and Farah said they had no intention to hurt the veteran actor's sentiments and they were only making a parody.

Apologising to Kumar, Shah Rukh Khan said: "I was completely wrong...If he is hurt, I apologise."

"I called him in the afternoon and the first thing he said to me was ‘it is no big deal, son’", Khan said.

"People do parody...it is a done thing," Khan further said, adding Kumar had every right to say anything to him.

Khan's apology came soon after Kumar threatened to take legal action over a sequence in the hit movie, which spoofs the film world of 1970s. There is a sequence that makes fun of Manoj Kumar’s acting style in which he used put his hand on his face. Kumar is also shown getting thrashed by a policeman.

Khan plays the lead role in the movie, which is his home production under the banner of Red Chillies Entertainment.

Farah said she offered to delete the particular scene from the film but the veteran actor said there was no need for it.

Shahrukh khan praises Deepika for her Performance in OSO

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan , who is credited with the healthy box-office run of Om Shanti Om , has attributed the film’s success to debutant actress Deepika Padukone .

The King Khan is seen in every frame of the film either pulling off hilarious antics or flaunting his six-pack.

According to director Farah Khan , SRK’s shirtless song-and-dance sequence showcasing his newly developed six-pack abs, has been one of the main reasons behind the film’s success.

But SRK says the main attraction of the film is his co-star Deepika, a model and daughter of India's renowned badminton player Prakash Padukone.

‘Om Shanti Om’ is the story of a struggling junior actor who is killed. He is reborn to become a star who goes on to seek the killer and his lady love (Deepika) from the previous birth.

"The star of the film is Deepika. She has done a great job in the film. We all tried to outdo her by our performance but she has managed to beat us all," SRK said during an event held late on Wednesday in Mumbai.

"Her acting in the film is excellent and she has the potential to become a great actress in the future."

Seven days into its release ‘Om Shanti Om’ is still running to packed theatres across India. Analysts say the popularity of Bollywood's most bankable actor will see the film set new records in box office collections.

Akshay Kumar's return as Khiladi

Akshay Kumar’s little cameo in ‘Om Shanti Om’ has captivated the movie buffs.

Everything that Akshay Kumar does on the big screen is lapped up by the audiences. After becoming one of the most bankable stars in Bollywood, Akshay has now won many hearts with his hilarious cameo in Farah Khan’s film Om Shanti Om .

The cameo shows Akshay in a scene from his fictitious movie ‘Return Of Khiladi’. Dressed in the outfit of German police (Polizei), Akki steps out of a car, tosses his gun, sticks it up under his belt like a metal phallus, and shoots out the baddies with mere pelvic thrusts. And when he loses the award to Om Kapoor, he begins roughing up the girl on his thighs.

People were in splits after watching Akki’s cameo in the film and are now hoping that the actor would in reality make a comeback as the Khiladi, albeit in a hilarious avatar.

Akshay is presently shooting Vipul Shah’s film Singh Is King in Australia.

He has expressed his desire to return to action roles, but whether he would make a comeback as a Khiladi in hilarious role is yet to be seen.

Pakistan Cricket Players doesnt like Om Shanti Om

Deepika Pudukone the next Superstar

Farah Khan is delighted about the kind of adulation that her leading actress Deepika Padukone has received from one and all.

Director Farah Khan is very excited about the kind of response that her green-eyed heroine has received and takes the credit for introducing a mesmerizing talent in Bollywood.

Deepika got her space, characterization and dialogues in Om Shanti Om, all that is needed for a promising silverscreen debut. She is one actress to look out for in the near future.

Shahrukh khan movie's biggest ever opening

The Farah Khan comedy reincarnation flick Om Shanti Om is doing wonders even in USA, as the first day’s figures show.

The presence of Shah Rukh Khan in the film has enabled it to make just over $385,000. It is being shown at a substantial 114 screens and has a per screen average of $3,377. This is a bumper opening for Om Shanti Om, and one of the best ever openings of a Shah Rukh Khan film. End of the day collections meant it was at number 14 in the Box Office charts.

Saawariya however has not fared that well. Distributed by power house Sony Pictures, it is being shown on 85 screens, but has made only $140,000. It’s per screen average is $1,647.

For the full USA Box Office report, please wait till Monday evening.

Interesting Facts on Om shanti Om

The first story draft of Om Shanti Om was written by Farah Khan on Andrew Lloyd Webber's letterhead. Farah had gone to London for the Bollywood-themed musical, Bombay Dreams, in 2002 and was staying in Andrew's house. She penned down her thoughts on his letterhead. But she made Main Hoon Naa before Om Shanti Om. The complete screenplay, except for some portions was written by Farah in two weeks flat

Shahrukh Khan who plays a struggling actor in the movie in the first half apparently fights a tiger while trying to impress Deepika. He tells her that he is a rising star from the South Indian film industry and that his name is Omswami. His favourite line in the film is 'Atti Patti Katti'. The scene was canned in Bombay's Film City. Shahrukh Khan also plays a superhero "Mohabbatman" in the film and rescues Malaika Arora. Mohabbatman, like superheroes, wears his underwear over his tights! However, the super villain wears his underwear inside his tights

31 stars including Shahrukh make a special appearance in the Deewangi song including Rani Mukherjee, Preity Zinta, Rekha, Jeetendra, Ritesh Deshmukh, Aftab Shivdasani, Shabana Azmi, Kajol, Priyanka Chopra, Shilpa Shetty, Arbaaz Khan, Amrita Arora, Vidya Balan, Juhi Chawla, Saif Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Salman Khan, Mithun Chakraborty, Dharmendra, Tusshar Kapoor, Karisma Kapoor, Tabu, Urmila Matondkar, Sunil Shetty, Govinda, Bobby Deol etc. Nobody charged Shah Rukh anything for making an appearance in the Deewangi song. Everybody did the song gratis. Knowing Shah Rukh Khan, he sent each of the stars who made a special appearance in the film, a gift hamper. The gift hamper had stuff like a Tag Heur watch, a Nokia mobile phone and other items.

Farah Khan was keen on having Dev Anand in the Deewangi song, however, the actor declined the offer as he never does special appearances. Dev Anand explained that till date, he has always played lead roles and he did not wish to break his tradition by doing something like this. He therefore politely declined the offer, gave regards to Shah Rukh Khan and gave his best wishes to SRK and Farah for their film. Sridevi is another actress who refused to be a part of the song because she wanted to appear in the song with husband Boney Kapoor. But since the song had actors and actresses only and not their spouses or film producers and directors, she could not be accommodated.

Before Vishal-Shekhar stepped in to compose the music for the movie, A R Rahman was signed for the music composition. The reason why A R Rahman opted out of this film was that he wanted the music rights to stay with the Composer and the Lyricist along with the producer, something which Farah and Shah Rukh Khan didn't agree with.

Farah Khan convinced a veteran music director Pyarelal to come off his self-imposed exile from the current film music scene to compose a song for Shah Rukh Khan's Om Shanti Om. The song was created in nine shifts spread over three days. And in LP style the song's recording happened with a 150-plus orchestra, a rarity in today's age of digitally-arranged music making. 40-45 different drums ranging from tabla and dhol to duff, 40 plus violins and 22 woodwinds amongst other instruments were used for the song

Farah Khan also approached Aamir Khan to make a special appearance in the Deewangi song but he pleaded inability to shoot. He was busy with the shooting of Taare Zameen Par and his participation in the song would have delayed his film and, in turn his new film, the Ghajini remake too. Anil Kapoor also did not agree to become a part of the song. Anil feared that he would be made fun of, on the sets. Also, Anil didn?t feel like being one among so many actors!.

Om Shanti Om : Movie Review

Farah Khan’s film Om Shanti Om perfectly matches the festive spirit of the season. The movie is one of the best wholesome entertainers we have seen from Bollywood this year.

The best part about OSO is that it doesn’t pretend to be cerebral. Its humour, its corny sentimentality, and its music combine together to make a perfect recipe to drive your blues away.

On top of it are superb performances by the starcast helmed by the endearing Shah Rukh Khan who does the most corny things with such conviction that you end up liking them. Be it dressing like Rajnikant in the cowboy ‘Murugan’ avatar and fighting with a fluffy tiger. Or rescuing his ladylove from a raging fire and getting scorched above his butt.

To entertain the audiences, SRK doesn’t mind making himself the butt of a joke. And Farah Khan doesn’t mind going over the top if that brings a smile to your face. Yes, that is the intention of OSO – to entertain. And it succeeds in it in flying colours.

That the film is a hearty tribute to the cinema of 1970s becomes clear from its opening scene – Rishi Kapoor , all dressed in silver, dances to the song “Om Shanti Om” from Subhash Ghai’s film Karz . In the crowd is Om Prakash Makhija (SRK) one of the junior artists shooting for the song along with his sidekick Pappu Master ( Shreyas Talpade ).

Om has dreams in his eyes – dreams to become a superstar someday. And he is in love with popular actress Shantipriya ( Deepika Padukone ), to whose poster he often talks his heart out.

At home, Om’s mother ( Kiron Kher ) is sure her son’s dreams would come true one day. Well, they almost do.

Our smitten hero gets introduced to his ladylove through a series of remarkable incidences. Om’s love story seems headed in the right direction, but then, comes a revelation. There is another man in Shantipriya’s life and his intentions are not noble.

Without giving the story away, it can be safely said that Om and Shantipriya’s love story remains incomplete. It takes second birth and a new life for Om to finally settle the score with the man who took away his love.

‘Om Shanti Om’ is packed with one slammer of a scene after another throughout its running time. With its sheer joie de vivre, the film engages you and allows you no spare thought to pick plot-holes from a rational point of view.

The first half of the film is simply superb. The tongue-in-cheek spoofs on the superstars of the 70s – be it Manoj Kumar, Dev Anand or Dharmendra – are extremely funny. The chemistry between Om and his friend (Shreyas) has many charming moments. And it rends your heart to see how Om Makhija’s dreams are shattered and yet how he proves to be a true lover till his tragic end.

Lekin film abhi baaki hai, mere dost.

The second half doesn’t see much revival of the love story, but it does pack in a good dose of suspense and drama as the reincarnated Om Kapoor recalls his previous life in flashes and sets out to complete the story left incomplete in previous life.

In OSO, Shah Rukh Khan proves that he isn’t a superstar for nothing. His acting in the movie borders on a deliberate, filmi histrionic, in keeping with his character. SRK also proves his flair for comedy in many scenes – such as the cowboy Murugan sequence, or the opening song.

Deepika Padukone is very photogenic and she emotes well too. She has all the qualities of a superstar in the making.

In the side-roles, Shreyas Talpade and Kiron Kher are superb. But what is surprising is Arjun Rampal ’s brilliant portrayal of a cunning producer. Rampal is terrific in the film’s second half, when the ugly past catches up with his character.

Pakistani actor Javed Sheikh, as the reincarnated SRK’s father Rajesh Kapoor, is commendable. His performance is several notches better than what we saw of him in Namastey London .

Music by Vishal-Shekhar is another strong point of OSO. “Aankhon Mein Teri” plucks notes at your heartstrings. “Om Shanti Om” may have an average melody but the thirty celebrities in the song keep you glued to the screen.

Farah Khan has a very unique style of filmmaking. She follows no set formula and is not afraid to try anything and everything wacky just for the sole purpose of providing entertainment. She makes SRK dress up as a superman, as a dacoit, and as a gaudy cowboy. And she presents Akshay Kumar and Abhishek Bachchan in little cameos that will have you in splits.

Apart from the content, OSO is also a technically sound film. The cinematographer doesn’t try too many stylistic shot compositions but yet captures the gist of the story. The editing by Shirish Kunder is slick and tight. And the special effects – transposing Deepika Padukone with the likes of Sunil Dutt, Rajesh Khanna and Jitendra – are of super quality.

To put the curtains down, I wish to say that OSO delivers what it promises. It makes you laugh and makes you cry.

I came out of the theatre with a broad smile on my face. And ‘Om Shanti Om’ sounded like the perfect mantra of this Diwali for me.
